Family and Community Involvement: Income-Generation Projects

In order to effectively address the issue of child labor, it is necessary to use a comprehensive approach that goes beyond working exclusively with the child laborers. In fact, the main reason that these children are compelled to work in the garbage dump and in the streets is because of what goes on within the families, whose resources are often severely limited. In order for our solutions to take root, we seek to change the circumstances that place these families in vulnerable situations.

Programs:

  • Community-buying: We organize bulk-buying opportunities for each family to participate in to help lessen the financial burden of daily necessities and food.
  • Clothing drives
  • Career Development Workshops (sewing, weaving, etc.)
  • Microenterprise and Microcredit Opportunities
